Home Health Assessment - Free!

We can work with you to find things in your home that may be making your children or family sick and suggest an action plan filled with low and no cost solutions to make your home a healthy place.

Many people can benefit from a Home Health Assessment:

People with asthma, allergies, or respiratory illness that seems worse at home.

Families with young children who may be exposed to household chemicals, lead, pesticides, dust mites and other allergens.

People who have recently moved into a new apartment or house and are experiencing more headaches or respiratory problems.

Trained Master Home Environmentalist © (MHE) volunteers use a Home Environmental Assessment List (HEALTM ) to help identify health hazards in your home. You and the volunteer walk through your home identifing different problem areas. There may be things you can see, like mold and mildew, and there may be things you cannot see that the volunteer can help you identify. The two of you then develop an action plan and prioritize steps you can take to create a healthier home environment, with an emphasis on low- and/or no-cost solutions. No testing or cleaning is done by the MHE volunteer. Schedule a visit today.

If you prefer to conduct a home assessment yourself without a volunteer, you can use our abbreviated Do It Yourself HEALTM form which will guide you through the process of making your home a healthier place to live. In return, we ask that you fill out a short confidential questionnaire that will help us track the program's effectiveness. The DIY HEALTM is available in English, Spanish, Japanese, and large print English for the visually impaired.

To schedule a HEALTM visit in the greater Seattle/King County area:

EPA Honors MHE

The Master Home Environmentalist © program was recognized in 2005 with a Children's Environmental Health Excellence Award! This prestigious honor is given out annually by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to programs and organizations that demonstrate effectiveness, innovation, and longevity in protecting children from environmental health risks.
On April 21, 2005 in Washington D.C. Aileen Gagney, the Asthma and Environmental Health Program Manager and MHE coordinator, will accept the award on behalf of the American Lung Association in Washington, the MHE trainers and volunteers. Over the past few years Aileen has been a driving force in improving and expanding the program from Washington State to Washington D.C.
Congratulations to all those involved in the award winning Master Home Environmentalist Program!
