Commuter Challenge Announces "Diamond Award Winners" for 2002

<%$alawtitle%> receives Special Recognition award
Commuter Challenge, the non-profit organization that assists King County employers in reducing commute trips through education and partnership, announced the winners of its prestigious annual "Diamond Awards" for 2002 in January. The Diamond Award winners are innovative leaders in reducing commute trips for their employees. The winners were selected from nearly 600 King County worksites affected by the 1991 Commute Trip Reduction Law.

"We practice what we preach. Our agency has a strategic goal to reduce air quality levels to healthful categories 365 days a year," said Astrid Berg, Executive Director of the <%$alawtitle%>. To assist in the goal, the organization's handbook include ways to reduce work trips and subsidize mass transit.

Thanks to partnerships with King County Metro and their FlexPass program and Flexcar the largest personal mobility club, where employees can sign up for a vehicle for business trips to reduce the need to bring a personal vehicle to work. "Besides helping improve air quality so people can breathe easier, these benefits make good sense for a business to offer its employees," says Berg.

The <%$alawtitle%> also wants to thank and acknowledge other businesses leading the way in reducing commute trips and making a difference in our community. For the 4th consecutive year, SAFECO was awarded the Diamond Ring Award for Organizational Leadership. SAFECO assists its employees with facilities, vanpool programs and incentives to ride share and as a result go a long way in helping our community with reducing their transportation.

We also want to congratulate all the other Diamond Award Winners and all the Pacesetters who are working to improve local transportation mobility. The benefits are not just for your own business, but also for the community with reduced travel times, a stronger economy through improved mobility and a cleaner environment and better air quality.
