The following asthma guidelines are the product of a work-group of the Washington State Medical Association's Education and Research Foundation. They were done in collaboration with the American Lung Association® of Washington and the Washington State Department of Health. They largely represent the 2003 recommendations of the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program, the educational component of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, a Division of the CDC. They are a key component of the Washington Asthma Initiative (WAI), a statewide coalition of individuals and organizations concerned about asthma prevention, diagnosis, and management.
