Asthma Friendly Camps

The American Lung Association® of the Northwest's Asthma Friendly Camps are open to any child with asthma.

Each Asthma Friendly Camp includes all the fun activities of summer camp plus asthma education intended to increase your child's asthma management skills. In addition, medical staff will monitor and assist your child with managing his or her asthma in a summer camp environment. The staff at an Asthma-Friendly Camp receive training in asthma management and asthma education from the American Lung Association® of the Northwest. Some camps make asthma education a part of the daily schedule; all camps use “teachable moments” to educate a camper, as a situation arises.

"Asthma Camp was the best thing that ever happened to us. We got back a totally different kid when we picked her up from Asthma Camp than the kid that we took to camp. In the past I used to see her in the corner sucking in her chest and still not taking her inhaler, but at camp, they really taught her to catch her asthma early so that she never even has to get to that point where she's sucking in her chest, and that's really helped her. The best thing she got out of camp was to understand that only she can know how she's really feeling when she has an attack, and that instead of depending on mommy and daddy to watch over her, she can now take care of her asthma herself -- she's only 10 but she really OWNS her asthma now." - Taiya - mom from Mesa

Who is eligible for camp?

Children who are age 6 to 17. Please check with individual camps for specific age guidelines.

How much does camp cost?

The price of each camp varies. Limited financial assistance is available; if your child has asthma but may not be able to attend because of financial concerns, ask about a “campership.” Please refer to individual camps for price structure.
