2010 Lung Walk
Join others from Washington state as we walk to Fight for Air!
Lung disease, including lung cancer, asthma, COPD and emphysema is the third leading cause of death in America. Over one million people in Washington state struggle to breathe each day because of it. Each week in our region alone, two people die from asthma, 30 people die from lung cancer, and more than 70 people die from COPD, emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
- Over the last decade, the death rate from lung disease has been growing faster than the death rate from almost any other killer.
- Asthma is responsible for more lost school days than any other chronic disease.
- Since 1987, more women have been dying each year from lung cancer than from breast cancer.
- The economic cost of asthma is unbelievable - over $14 billion dollars is spent annually to keep asthma and its potentially deadly affects under control.
Register to walk today. Sign on as a Team Captain and recruit your family, friends and co-workers to help us fight lung disease and raise money to support the efforts of the American Lung Association® in Washington in saving lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. The money raised will:
- Fund needed research to find new ways of preventing, treating and someday curing lung disease.
- Encourage every community to respond to the asthma epidemic by creating environments where children can learn and play protected from environmental allergens and watched over by parents, educators, and medical professionals who know how to respond to an asthma attack.
- Support lung health initiatives in our state aimed at improving air quality.
We know what to do about lung disease: fight it head on with research, advocacy and education in all our communities across Washington. We need your help to do it.
Step-up and register today for the 2010 Lung Walk. We can help you start a healthy tradition with your family or company this spring!
