Washington Asthma Initiative
The Mission - "To mobilize individuals, organizations, and communities throughout the state to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and management of asthma in order to decrease its individual and societal burdens."
The Washington Asthma Initiative (WAI) is a statewide multidisciplinary coalition of organizations, health care providers, individuals, and government agencies. Members have a common mission to work to prevent asthma and improve diagnosis, treatment, education and the management of this chronic disease.
The Steering Committee is the decision making body for the WAI. There are several standing committees which focus on core activities around data collection, community awareness, policy development, and professional education. Special committees are created when new issues, ideas or projects develop. The Planned Care Initiative committee is a special committee focusing on improving patient care by using the Chronic Care Model, collaboratives and tools such as registries.
